Budapest Milan

Jó reggelt! (Good morning in Hu)

High time for a new post to start your weeks!

What does Budapest have to do with Milan? You will get to know it today.

As the new Hungarian brand I am introducing this week is called BUDMIL or we could say BUD(apest)MIL(an). Surprising, isn't it?

This brand is again a childhood memory for me but I just have only recently found out the meaning behind the name.

I remember my childhood weekends, when my family went on trips to the forest and walked along trails following boar tracks and searching for eatable mushrooms. And naturally, the whole family armed and dressed in BUDMIL for these adventures. Dressed in BUDMIL, because we are talking about a sports and leisure brand offering both comfortable leisure suits and training shoes.

Unfortunately I have to say, as much as this brand was a part of our lives back then, as much it is forgotten now. They still exist and in operation but if you asked me where their shop(s) in Budapest were, I would be clue less and if I look at their website, I just think: they sort of forgot to catch up.

In reality, I think they were just unable to compete with the western brands such as Nike and Adidas coming into Hungary after our system changed from socialism. :(

For BUDMIL I remember a unique style and really nice mute colours, like this specific green and coral pink colour that you could have associated with BUDMIL.

However, it seems, at least to me that along the years, this distinct brand image have been lost unfortunately.

I was trying to track down some vintage BUDMIL for you guys before I show you the current one, but I did not find much.
See what I got:

BUDMIL was/is really a brand for the whole family. I remember that the coolest ones in school used to have a BUDMIL backpack and pencilcase, like the ones below. I know they might not seem to be very cool now, but they were at the time. Haha, after this sentence I feel so old.

This inside was typical for a BUDMIL leisure jacket, the fabric they used and this net made the brand recognisable. They often used just two colours (usually one neutral and mute and one brighter, cheerful colour) to make their garments look at the same time both laid-back and active.

And from today:

These remind me more of the original brand image:

So, what do you think guys?

The strange thing is that if I look at their website, they really seem to be doing everything that a company should be doing these days, at least according to what I learn at uni, and they have shops all over Hungary and a transactional online site, but I sort of feel that their current image is just so confusing...

Anyway guys, I know this post was rather discouraging, but if you DO fell in love with some pieces, no barriers for you! You can shop online, delivery is world-wide and above a certain amount it's for free. :)

Hope you enjoyed this post, although, it was a bit more history this time than fabulous styles. :) Always good to know where things come from! You never know! They might end up one day at the other end of the scale!

Have a lovely week!

Comment please!

peace,
