Conscious London

Sziasztok!

Finally here I am again! After an unusually not too stressful week. ^^ Soooo happy! The sun shines! And my mind is relaxed! Feeling on top of uni work too! And travelling home to lovely Budapest in 2 weeks! Seems I am on the upper side of a wave right now! So why not use this positive energy to report about my wonderful time in London finally!? I knooooooow, I am extremely late, but I had so many experiences, so great, I need to share, so be prepared some other posts to come on London.

For the first one, I would like to tell you guys about the many examples or sustainable fashion and recycling in practice I encountered in London! I received many comments on my little home-made tie-blazer from my last post, which was made up from my father's old ties and is an example for my own enthusiasm for the topic. My apologies ahead for the immense number of photos but you have to see it all! :)

Right on my first day, I bumped into this recycled fashion exhibition by Fashion MA students. I have to say, maybe it was the best exhibition I have ever been too with the loveliest hosts! Free entry, free prints, free folder, prize drew, photo taking allowed, great ideas, great team, lovely students! Thanks again for the experience! I am very sad because it seems I lost all papers collected from them, although I wanted to look up the company they co-operated with. It is supposed to be an NGO collecting all sorts of clothes and textiles for reuse....

uuuuuuu! surprise! what's there!!??

exploring...

a fashion exhibition!!

theme was military style!

the students apparently have been using this garment-parts-constructed-rabbit throughout the designs, either in this printed design or sewed up as a toy

so easy to create an interesting effect, just grab a brush and go crazy on an old sheet :D

give me the coat!

love the a pink twist on muted colour!

practicalityyyyyyyyyy!

great what you effect you can achieve with repetition! love the striking colour inside the coat!

hello! i used to be an old shirt! now I am a skirt!

no idea what to do with your old drawers and buttons? get some imagination man! :D

wearable recycled bicycle wear!! high visibility guaranteed!!

The next example of recycling was discovered at Spitafields market, Nina Davies recycles old ties and suits, making up chic outfits for women. Each piece is uniquely created, draped around a mannequin, pinned, cut and sewed by her. She and her label Enienay (NINA=EN EI EN AY) have even been featured in Vogue!

watch out for the heart shape cut and the beautiful buttons which upgrade an old boring suit material
During the London Fashion Weekend I was also lucky to visit the International Fashion Showcase 2014, organised by the British Council, a showcase of upcoming, new talents from all over the world. In a future post I will talk about this more but for now let me show you what the Philippines had there in connection to sustainability.

This is made of plastic net.

Would you guess that these lamps are made up of cut up plastic bottles? The bottle neck is directed towards the centre and the ends are cut of, sides are cut up towards the centre...best than ikea!

like take-away soup! keep your plastic spoons! for your next staple piece!

please leave your secret message in a bottle....;)

love these lamps!!

So this is enough consciousness for today! Go people and explore your existing wardrobes! What could you do tomorrow different!? ;)

love,
Judyyyy *o*
